One of the true pioneers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Bro. David Wilson entered Omega Chapter on Thursday, November 13, 2008. David Joseph Wilson, 94, U.S. Army Retired, died November 13, 2008. He was born in Savannah, Ga. and moved to Akron in 1950. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Doris Faith; daughter, Rita Wilson Neal (Benjamin) of Clayton, NC; and first cousin, Ester Anderson of Maryland. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by two of his three daughters, Joyce Ann Maxwell (Floyd), and Ethel Marie Smith (Gary). Mr. Wilson enjoyed the company of eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous friends. Mr. Wilson was involved in numerous civic and charitable organizations. He graduated from the University of Akron and helped establish the chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity on campus. He served on many boards including the Akron Host Lions Club, Visiting Nurses, Hospice, Meals on Wheels, Metro Transportation, Minority Contractors, Planned Parenthood, and the Urban League of Akron. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Bokas Funeral Home, 3653 W. Market Street, Fairlawn, Ohio. Friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Visiting Nurse, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, Ohio 44333.
